What we do

Seven ways to make a difference

Each programme responds to needs identified with the community.

Education and school outreach

Education & School Outreach

We support children and young people through school outreaches, mentorship, educational support and guidance. Our long-term vision is to establish a school that provides quality education and opportunities for children from vulnerable backgrounds.

Programme details

In many homes around Kangemi, children want to learn but lack the support they need. Some miss school because of fees. Others struggle without books, guidance, or someone to believe in them.

We run education and school outreach to change that. We visit schools, offer mentorship, provide basic learning materials, and walk with children from vulnerable backgrounds. Our long-term hope is to help build a school that gives quality education and real opportunity to children who need it most.

This work is steady and practical. It means showing up, encouraging young minds, and making sure a child does not fall behind simply because of where they come from.

Education opens doors. When we support a child’s learning, we give them a chance at a different future. Join hands with us so more children in our community can stay in school and grow with hope.

Feeding programmes

Feeding Programmes

We provide nutritional support to children and vulnerable community members through feeding programmes in local schools and churches, helping improve children's health, wellbeing and ability to participate in learning.

Programme details

Hunger makes everything harder. A child who comes to school hungry cannot focus. A family that skips meals struggles to stay healthy and strong.

Through our feeding programmes, Hub Community Development Organization provides nutritional support to children and vulnerable community members in local schools and churches. A simple meal can improve a child’s health, energy, and ability to lear

The work is direct. Food is prepared and shared where it is needed. No long speeches — just the quiet act of making sure someone does not go hungry today.

When a child eats, they can play, learn, and grow. When a family receives support, the whole home feels a little lighter. Join hands with us to keep these feeding programmes going so no one in our community has to face the day on an empty stomach

Youth empowerment

Youth Empowerment

We equip young people with practical skills, entrepreneurship knowledge and career guidance to help them become economically independent and create opportunities for themselves and others.

Programme details

Many young people in Kangemi have energy and dreams but few clear paths forward. Without skills, guidance, or opportunities, it is easy to feel stuck.

We run youth empowerment programmes that equip young people with practical skills, entrepreneurship knowledge, and career guidance. We help them become economically independent and create opportunities for themselves and others.

The approach is hands-on. Young people learn real skills they can use. They receive mentoring and support to start small businesses or find work. The goal is simple: help them stand on their own feet.

When young people are given tools and belief, they rise. They begin to build their own lives and lift those around them. Join hands with us so more youth in our community can move from waiting to creating.

Agriculture and farming support

Agriculture & Farming Support

We support local farmers with seedlings, agricultural training, and better farming practices. By strengthening small-scale farming, we help improve food security and give families a more stable way to earn a living

Programme details

Many families in our community depend on small-scale farming, yet they often lack good seedlings, training, or modern methods. When harvests are poor, food becomes scarce and income disappears.

We support local farmers with seedlings, agricultural training, and better farming practices. By strengthening small-scale farming, we help improve food security and give families a more stable way to earn a living.

The work is practical and rooted in the land. Farmers receive what they need to plant better, grow more, and care for their soil. Success here means food on the table and money in the home.

When a farmer succeeds, a whole family eats better. When many farmers succeed, the community grows stronger. Join hands with us to support these farmers so more households can feed themselves with dignity.

Counselling services

Counselling Services

We provide free counselling services for individuals, young people and families. Through mental health awareness and community support, we encourage healthier relationships, emotional wellbeing and community healing.

Programme details

Life brings heavy burdens. Some people carry stress, family conflict, or quiet pain with nowhere to speak freely. Without support, small problems can grow into deeper wounds.

We offer free counselling services for individuals, young people, and families. Through mental health awareness and community support, we encourage healthier relationships and stronger emotional wellbeing.

The service is quiet and respectful. People are listened to without judgment. They receive guidance and a safe space to talk. Sometimes that is enough to help someone take the next step forward.

When people are given space to be heard, healing becomes possible. Families grow closer. Young people feel less alone. Join hands with us so more people in our community can find the support they need to carry their burdens a little lighter.

Women's safe haven'

Women’s Safe Haven – Kangemi

This is an emergency response programme that provides immediate safety and support to women and girls fleeing gender-based violence in Kangemi and the surrounding communities.

Programme details

This is an emergency response programme that provides immediate safety and support to women and girls fleeing gender-based violence in Kangemi and the surrounding communities.

When a woman is forced to leave a violent situation, she often has nowhere safe to go. This programme exists to close that gap. We operate women-only safe houses that offer urgent protection and basic support the moment a survivor arrives.

The programme focuses on four core services:

Immediate Safety

A secure, confidential place where a woman can stay away from her abuser. The houses are women-only to ensure privacy, dignity, and a sense of real safety.

Basic Emergency Care

Food, a place to sleep, clothing, and hygiene items for women and any children who arrive with them.

First-Response Support

Access to basic medical attention, trauma-informed listening, and psychosocial support so survivors are not left alone with what they have just experienced.

Practical Next Steps

Help with reporting to the police if the woman chooses, referrals to legal aid, medical services, and support for longer-term planning so she is not forced to return to danger.

Who the Programme Serves

The programme is exclusively for women and girls who are survivors of gender-based violence. Children accompanying their mothers are also sheltered. No one is turned away because they arrived with nothing or at an inconvenient hour.

How the Programme Works

A woman in crisis is received at one of the safe houses. She is given immediate protection and basic needs.Trained staff assess her situation and provide first-line emotional and practical support.Referrals are made for medical care, legal assistance, or other services according to her needs and choices.

She remains in the safe house for as long as necessary while longer-term options are explored. The approach is simple and urgent: safety first, then support, then a path forward. Everything is designed around the reality that many women leave in the middle of the night with almost nothing.

Why This Programme Exists

In Kangemi, gender-based violence often remains hidden until it becomes life-threatening. Many women stay because they have no alternative. Others leave and find themselves on the street or forced to return. This programme removes that impossible choice by providing a locked door, a bed, and people ready to help when it matters most.

What Support Makes Possible

Running these safe houses requires continuous resources: rent and security, food and supplies that can be given at any hour, trained staff who can respond day or night, and the ability to link survivors quickly to medical and legal help. Every contribution keeps a bed available, a meal ready, and a door open for the next woman who needs it. This is not a long-term residential programme or a general social service. It is an emergency response for women in immediate danger — practical, focused, and open when it is needed most.

Skills development

Skills Development

We empower young people and community members through skills development, practical learning and community-based initiatives. Through campaigns such as CHAGUA initiative, we encourage active participation, leadership, informed decision-making and personal growth, helping individuals build confidence, discover their potential and pursue opportunities for a more sustainable future.

Programme details

We believe that every individual has the potential to contribute meaningfully to their community when given the right knowledge, skills and opportunities. Our Skills Development Programme focuses on empowering young people and community members with the practical abilities, confidence and awareness they need to take initiative, make informed decisions and work towards a better future.

Through community-based initiatives, awareness campaigns, learning activities and youth engagement, Hub creates opportunities for people to develop their leadership, communication, critical thinking, teamwork and civic participation skills. We encourage individuals to recognize their strengths, understand the challenges affecting their communities and become active participants in creating solutions.

Our approach to skills development is rooted in participation, practical learning and community empowerment. We aim to connect knowledge with real-life experiences, helping individuals develop skills they can apply in their personal lives, education, employment, entrepreneurship and community involvement.
